Blinds Design Advice
Rule 2 Stained or painted blinds?
At The California Company we want to offer all our customers a wealth of choices when buying their blinds and as such, we offer a wide variety of different paint and stain finishes.
Choosing the colour that is right for you, depends very much on the décor style of your room and the look you want to achieve with your new wood blinds.
In the past few years there has been a marked increase in the number of California Blinds Company customers who opt for painted finishes. Our blinds ranges have been designed to reflect that and we have a selection of cool contemporary shades of white and off white which tie in with the current trend for lighter room colours. At the other end of the spectrum darker wood stains such as pecan and walnut blinds offer a stunning contrast to the lighter painted blinds colours.
As a general rule of thumb, lighter colours (both whites and lighter stained blinds) pull more light into the room, while darker colours tend to absorb more light. Look around at the décor in your room and try to picture the effect of say a dark wood blind up on the window. If you have a lot of heavy or darker furniture, then a dark stained wood blind on the window could be too much and swamp the room. However lightening the room up can be achieved by having a white painted wood blind which helps pull light into the room.
If you have a wood floor that has a darker stain, this is another consideration. The floor is a large factor in the overall space within the room, as is the window. Therefore having a dark stained wooden floor and dark stained wooden blinds could be a bit too much for the room to take.
Finally, consider which way the window faces. If the room is north facing or does not get much light, then a white wooden blind will do a great job of creating a lighter feel inside the room and helping pull light into the room.
