Blinds Blinds Measuring Guide Outside Recess Windows

How to measure for an Outside Recessed Blind

This is when you want to position your blind outside the window recess.

  1. You should use a steel tape measure as they are much more reliable than cloth / plastic tapes.
  2. Look for any obstructions that could get in the way of the blind - i.e. window handles, telephone boxes, cables etc.
  3. Firstly decide how much of an overlap you would like each side of the window and how high you would like the blind to be over the window.
  4. From right to left, measure the exact dimension of the area where you want the blind to cover. We recommend you add on approx 6mm either side to ensure you have the area covered correctly with your blinds.
  5. From top to bottom, measure the exact dimension of the area where you want the blind to cover.  FYI the height of the blind box which houses the mechanism for the blind is approx 64mm. You must include the area where the blind box will be mounted in the overall drop measurement which you supply to us.
  6. Measure all windows you require blinds for even if they appear to be the same size.

The width and drop of the bind specified by you will be the overall size specified with no allowance made by us.  To ensure you order the correct size please select the BLIND SIZE option.

All Blinds we supply you with have a front pelmet. If you wish to cover the side of the metal mechanism then select YES to the Do you require Pelmet returns?  We will then supply you with mitered returns / end caps, providing a continuous pelmet.
