Harrogate Shutters a Natural Success
Debbie from Harrogate, Yorkshire, bought shutters from The California Company in June. She had recently moved to a basement flat on quite a busy road in Harrogate where people walking past were able to see directly in through the window. Shutters were not in the Yorkshire flat when Debbie looked around the property and the previous tenant had cheap curtains on the window which were almost always closed.
"The room has become my bedroom and I didn't want people looking directly into the room. I had considered getting blinds or wooden blinds but wanted something to make the room look a bit more special. Shutters are not that popular yet in Harrogate but there is one house not far from new flat that has shutters on a Victorian Bay window. I'd liked the look of these plantation shutters and they really made the house look great. I called a couple of blinds shops in Harrogate but they could not help me.
Shutters were not something I'd considered buying online. I found out about The California Company as I went to the house I liked in Harrogate and asked them where they bought their plantation shutters from! They gave me the contact details for The California Shutter Company and took the time to show me their shutters.
It was really really helpful to see the shutters installed and hear from someone who had taken the DIY approach to ordering shutters. The shutters looked fantastic and I was told that overall the whole process for ordering the shutters and putting them up had been really easy."
Debbie contacted The California Shutter Company and emailed a photo of her window to have us mark the photo to show where she should measure for the shutters.
"I cannot say just how straightforward the measuring was. The information I received was great and I've now got fantastic shutters instead of cheap looking blinds. I went for the natural stain shutters as it matched well with my bedroom furniture and they just really finish of the room.
The best piece of advice I can offer people thinking of buying shutters is to go for shutters with a mid rail instead of tier on tier shutters. The other plantation shutters up the road were tier on tier and I thought this is the design I should have. However I was advised by The California Shutter Company that it would be better to have a mid rail which would allow me to tilt the shutters slats separately at the top section and bottom section. I never open the shutter panels up and this function means I can tilt the slats at different angles on the top and bottom sections. I think I’ve definitely go the best looking flat in Harrogate thanks to my shutters and will be coming back to do other rooms in the flat when I have the money. The shutters were cheap to buy but not in terms of quality. The wood on the shutters is beautiful and they feel much more expensive than they actually were.
Love the shutters overall and cannot recommend you enough”
