Let the Light Enter Bristol With Plantation Shutters

Joyce from Horfield, Bristol, wanted a contemporary window dressing with a strong design statement for her newly decorated bedroom window. But she did not feel that traditional curtains would suit the minimalistic style of her room. Some of her close friends in Clifton, Bristol had recently installed wooden plantation shutters themselves from The California Company for all the windows in their Georgian townhouse. Joyce thought that their plantation shutters looked fab and would complement her bedroom window perfectly.

“Being North facing, my Bristol bedroom doesn’t get much light, so I wanted the best design that would let in as much light as possible in the daytime, but also shut the light out at night.  After getting advice from The California Shutter Company, we agreed that a larger slat would let the most light in, whilst creating a very modern feel that would match the décor of my Horfield bedroom. I was unsure if the 114mm slat would be too big for my window, so The California Shutter Company provided me with some designer drawings showing me examples of windows with 89mm slats and some with and 114mm slats, so that I could compare and decide between the two. I loved the look of the 114mm slat, and chose it in bright white, with a high gloss painted finish, to maximise light.

Being a bit of a DIY phobe, the thought of installing plantation shutters myself was a bit daunting to say the least, but I took the advice of my friends in Bristol and read the design advice and measuring window shutters guides thoroughly before I started. I found them both extremely useful and actually, it was far more straightforward than I’d imagined - I was really impressed at how quickly I’d managed to do it!  The end result is exactly what I was hoping for.  I absolutely love my new interior shutters, my bedroom now looks beautiful, is flooded with light in the daytime, and lovely and dark at night!   I couldn’t wait to show off my new window shutters to my friends and family in Bristol!”
