Blinds Blinds Measuring Guide Inside Recess Windows

How to measure For A Recessed Blind

To inside mount the wood blind you need a recess area or a reveal on the window. To establish what a recess window or a window with a reveal is please click here.

  1. You should use a steel tape measure as they are much more reliable than cloth / plastic tapes.
  2. Look for any obstructions that could get in the way of the blind - i.e. window handles, telephone boxes, cables etc.
  3. Measure the width of the window in two or three places. Bear in mind that very few windows are absolutely square.  It is common for the measurements to vary from top to bottom by a small amount. The NARROWEST dimension is the dimension you input in your order steps.
  4. Then measure the drop. As with the width we suggest you start from one side and measure in a few places to find the longest dimension. It’s this longest dimension you should use.
  5. Do measure all windows your require blinds for, even if they appear to be the same size.

When you order the blind on our site you can choose either to order the blind as a ‘recess’ dimension or as the ‘blind size’.

If you order the Blind as RECESS we will make a 12mm deduction from the overall width that you convey to us. This is to ensure that the blind can raise and lower comfortably without hitting the wall on the side.

However, if you prefer to order the BLIND SIZE you can tell us the exact dimension that you would like the blind to be. We will make no deductions. This can be quite a good way of measuring if you have a recess window but have certain obstructions such as a picture rail that is within the window recess.
